Self Evaluation on TP 16/02/09

Year 2: ICT
Year 5: Maths

1. Self concerns: Ability to teach, Class control, Discipline

For the Year 2 pupils, there were no problems encountered during my last TP as the pupils were so eager to learn more on Paint Tools in which they have already been introduced to Paint in their previous lesson. Even though some of the pupils are talking during the lesson, they managed to answer the questions asked by the teacher correctly. When given a chance to try out the tools in paint program in the front on the IWB, the noisy pupils stopped talking because they don’t want to miss the chance of doing the tryouts.

For the Year 5 pupils, they were learning Multiplication of a 4-digit number to a 3-digit number using The Gelosia Method in which they have done it in their previous lesson but on 2-digit numbers. Here, the lesson was conducted smoothly as they already understand the basic concept of Gelosia Method.

2. Task concerns: Teaching tasks such as big classes, inadequate instructional materials

For Year 2 pupils, they managed to remember what they have learnt in their previous lesson. Most of them know where to find the Paint program and open it. They also managed to identify the tools available in the Paint program and also recognize each of its functions.

For Year 5 pupils, some of them managed to answer the exercises given on time but some of them were stuck with their multiplication tables which were assumed as the major problem here. Although there were only 6 questions given, most of them got 4 to 5 out of 6 which had reached my level of expectations. For some pupils who do not remember well with their multiplication tables, they only managed to do 2 to 3 questions out of 6 during the lesson.

3. Impact-Learning concerns: Needs of pupils, about themselves as individuals, the tasks and contents of the teaching process, and impact of their teaching on pupils’ behaviours

For Year 2 pupils, they were able to identify the tools and recognize the functions of each tool in Paint program. They enjoyed the lesson as they were being asked to try out on the IWB themselves one by one.

For Year 5 pupils, the problem here was remembering the multiplication tables. For those who can memorize their tables well, they managed to finish the exercise given (6 questions). Unfortunately for those who had forgotten the tables, they did not do well although attentions were given individually. In knowing this, the cooperating teacher did help them out in doing their exercise which I do not prefer because it will only leads to spoon-feeding and the pupils will not learn from their mistakes.
